The Expert Or The Trusted Authority?
Step one of writing a review, is pick out that book that you have been dying to read. If you already have the desire to read a certain book, your feelings and expectations of the book will be more defined, making it all the easier to put into words and write a review. If you have no idea where to start, trying going to your favorite book section, young adult for me, and take a look around. Pick something that interests you, but if possible, isn’t all that widely popular. By picking a less heard of book, you won’t be as likely to let other’s views influence you during the review process. Also, your review will most likely be more helpful since there won’t nearly be as many out that as the top sellers.
You want to be able to deliver your information on a global level. Writing a book uses a one-to-many model rather than the old one-to-one model of phone and email. Wouldn’t it be better if your prospects could find you on Amazon and get in-depth information about you on their own? People might not buy your book, but after looking at your book online they might go to your blog, sign up for your subscriber list on your newsletter, or someday hire you or attend one of your seminars.
You don’t have to be seen as an expert to everyone. You really only have to be seen as an expert to the people who know you. Since most people usually won’t buy from you if they don’t know you, or if they haven’t gotten a personal recommendation about you, then it really doesn’t matter if people who don’t know you see you as an joke essay writer. They weren’t going to buy from you anyways.
This is a website that allows you to give potential buyers an opportunity to read a sample of your book. I put these widgets on the buy page for each of my books. If a visitor clicks on the widget, they are shown a “The Story Behind the Book” blurb while the sample loads. This is an ideal spot to put a paraphrased differentiation statement. It will prime the reader for the sample. It should be a paraphrased version because the reader may have already read the primary statement on the website before clicking on the Bookbuzzr widget.
Too many authors try to promote themselves in ridiculous ways by writing on their websites how their book is a “must read” and contains the answer to all the reader’s problems. If you have to tell readers that, they aren’t going to believe you. Go find some legitimate testimonials from reliable people who will say those things about your book. You are not qualified to judge your own book because you have a vested interest in it.
A good writer must be able to see both the overall pattern and the individual pieces. This sounds like the previous habit but it isn’t. Quite. The previous habit talks about being able to see the desired end. This habit refers to being able to see each of the building blocks of the book, how they fit together and where the book is actually going. Without this ability, it is not possible to bring a book back on track.
During the process of acquiring my required education, I began to seek out those people in my chosen profession revered for their skills and talents in the areas of embalming and reconstructive art. I found several who could and did teach me a lot, but I found two men standing far above the rest. These men were experts and, one of them I would call a guru of the art.
Make sure the writer adds value to you and your company. Does the writer go above and beyond the call of duty? How can the freelance writer drive web traffic to your website? What can they do to help your business grow? You may want to hire someone who possesses a business background; they have business degrees and experience. Their professional experience will be invaluable to you. It’s a bonus if you find a freelance writer who has a combination of book and street smarts.
If you want to become a professional writer, you must take on marketing responsibilities. You must be prepared to sell yourself. No one else knows your work as well as you do, no one else love your work as much as you do, no one else will be able to sell it as well as you can. What is going to put your writing over the top is if you take the necessary steps to make yourself known to an audience. Make an audience want to read your writing. They have so much to choose from, why should yours stand out to them?
Best of all, if your niche is, for instance, home renovation products and services, get an article printed in one of the trade magazines that serves that industry.
Have a block of paper and some extra pens with you to the first meeting, so that people can write down the times, places and books, if they come unprepared.
